There are two types of generators to choose from: a standby generator which will automatically turn on when your power goes out, or a portable generator which will need to be manually fired. With either system, it will be necessary to determine the size required for your home. This will also depend on whether you wish to power your entire home with the generator or select circuits. We can assist in choosing the right generator for your needs and provide a free estimate based on that information.
Residential
Standby Generators
An emergency home standby generator system can automatically restore power to your house in about 20 seconds. When the power goes out, the generator automatically starts and continues to run until power is restored. You can choose a generator that delivers enough power for the entire house (including air conditioning), or go with a smaller unit and power a few select circuits, like the refrigerator, furnace fan, sump pump, and several lights for basic survival.
These generators are installed outside the home and are wired through an automatic transfer switch to the main electrical panel. Home standby systems can be fueled by natural gas, LP gas or diesel fuel. Many can be connected to the home's natural gas line, eliminating the need to fill fuel tanks. Standby system capacities range from 6,000 Watts up to 40,000 Watts and more, and start automatically -- even if you are not home.

Portable Generators for Emergency Power
A lower cost alternative to home standby systems is to use a portable generator of the appropriate wattage for your needs. With a power transfer switch installed to the house's main electrical panel, when electricity goes out, simply fire up the generator to resume power to your refrigerator, furnace fan, small kitchen appliances, lights, etc.
